Peter Hudson | The 2 Circles Again

“The silence of a falling star, lights up a purple sky, and as I wonder where you are, I'm so lonesome I could cry...” - Hank Williams 1949

“Both paintings are a homage to the existential relationship the moon has with the Earth and its oceans. The sky is often referred to as the ocean above. To look up into this bottomless dark sea on a clear night is one of the most beautiful things I know. It’s difficult to take in the reality of the night sky.

The vast distance between us, and the moon the stars and the planets is a powerful lesson in scale, and a levelling reminder that our part in all this is both wonderful and mysterious... Looking at what goes on up there beyond the clouds helps me understand the landscape, and indeed myself, better. The night sky is always there somewhere, in every painting and drawing I make.”
