"I saw Coonowrin for the first time from the window of the ‘Sunlander’ as the old train rattled past the Glasshouse Mountains, it was 1960, I had just turned 10. I had never seen anything like Coonowrin before, it’s dagger shape, and mysterious presence fascinated me, I was only a kid but I had a feeling that this mountain had something for me, and it did.
When I was at Art School at QCAin 1973 we were taken on a field trip to Maleny which gives you an elevated view of the Glasshouse Mountains, here I made my first drawing of Coonowrin. In 1989 I moved with my family to Maleny, I wanted to concentrate on painting landscape, so having Coonowrin close was a godsend. I have been painting and drawing that strange beautiful mountain ever since." – Peter Hudson 2021
