2018 Percival Portrait Finalists: MacFarlane & Lopes

The biennial Percival Portrait Painting Prize is North Queensland’s own portrait competition and is held at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in Townsville.
The Prize showcases the outstanding and innovative work currently being produced by Australian artists.
Stewart MacFarlane is a figurative artist whose work is saturated with contrasting blocks of colour and exaggerated angles.
MacFarlane’s work is widely collected and is represented, amongst others, in the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the QLD Art Gallery, Artbank, Art Gallery of WA, Brisbane City Gallery, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and many regional institutions.
Steve Lopes is a Sydney based painter and printmaker known for his figurative and landscape paintings.
Lopes is a frequent finalist in national awards including the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing, Kings School Art Prize, Kedumba Drawing Award and the Kilgour Figurative Art Prize and was the winner of the 2018 Gallipoli Art Prize.
The launch of the Percival Portrait Painting Prize 2018 and announcement of the winning works will be held on Friday 27th April.
