George Gittoes Blood Mystic

George Gittoes launched his new book 'Blood Mystic' at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane on Saturday 22nd October 2016.

For nearly 4 decades Gittoes has documented the best and worst of some of the world’s most notorious human conflicts in Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Nicaragua, South Africa and Afghanistan.

'Blood Mystic' chronicles Gittoes’ extraordinary life for the first time. In its pages you will read about how he worked with Andy Warhol, dined with Fidel Castro, plotted with Julian Assange, was feted by Nelson Mandela and blessed by Mother Teresa.

An artist of immense stature and importance Gittoes is acclaimed as one of Australia’s most important contemporary creative figures. His practice spans across film, photography, drawing and paintings.

Gittoes solo exhibition “Night Vision” was held at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley in July this year. The exhibition concentrated on imagery relating to a series of unpublished novels and essays written by Gittoes.
