'Swamps near Nyrripi' A15257
Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri

Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri was born in Haasts Bluff in the late 1940's. She grew up at Haasts Bluff and remembers when people rode on camels and when the women and young girls had to look after herds of goats.
Ngoia paints her father’s country, which is a sacred Warlpiri territory. The oval shapes in her paintings are an iconographic representation of the swamps and lakes near Nyrripi (Talarada) north west of Mount Liebig, approx 200kms west of Alice Springs in Central Australia.
The fine detailed dots represent the water drying up and the cracks in the ground forming. In 2006 Ngoia was the winner of the prestigious 23rd Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award in Darwin.

Matthew Cheyne

Queensland born artist Matthew Cheyne graduated from the Queensland College of Art in 2001, having also studied film, and literature. In his work he is not as interested in trying to tell a specific story or communicate a specific idea as he is in trying generate a mood or vibe.
Currently based in Ipswich, Cheyne has spent much of the last decade living in Germany and France and has had solo exhibitions in Cologne, Berlin and Luxembourg.
The painting 'Today.Only' was a very specific exercise in trying to create the sense of a sort of raucous, innocuous threat; something fast but faltering, festive but intimidating. The feeling of a not-to-be-missed time-limited-offer on something you didn’t know you had to have.
A solo exhibtion of Matthew's Cheyne's works will be held from 2nd - 19th December.

Barney Ellaga

Barney Ellaga was a senior law man and custodian of the Alawa language group in Central Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. He had unsurpassed, intimate knowledge of his traditional homelands and it is this subject, ‘Alawa Country’ and the creation stories associated with it, that his work most represents.
In a response to the land of his birth Barney used extraordinary colour compliments to contour Alawa terrains. His fresh, innovative and dynamic approach gives impact and power to his imagery. Untrained in composition or colour theory, Barney had no knowledge of or interaction with contemporary art styles or artists.
Sadly Barney passed away in 2015

Carlos Barrios

Carlos Barrios was born in El Salvador in Central America and now lives in Queensland. His father was an archaeologist and Carlos grew up exploring remands on ancient cultures and was surroudned by artifacts and art. “I would stare into them [artifacts] and found myself transported to other dimensions, times and spaces. Everything was talking to me especially clouds and shadows, they seemed to describe a space between reality and fantasy, filled with adventures.”
Carlos Barrios began painting figures and creatures from his imagination at the age of six. However when he was ten, civil war broke out and Barrios found himself illustrating the horrific scenes of war.
Carlos Barrios has been a finalist in several art prizes including the Blake Prize, Sulman Prize, NSW Plein Air Art Prize and the Fisher Ghost Art Prize
