Due to the COVID19 disruptions Mitchell Fine Art is revisiting the solo exhibition by Ann Thomson, one of Australia’s iconic female artists.
Thomson, who is originally from Brisbane, has been painting for over 50 years and has taken her art around the world. Thomson is now based in Sydney.
Since graduating from theNational Art School in 1962 Ann Thomson has become a force in the Australian art scene. Known for her vibrant, expressive artworks Thomson’s paintings are drawn from memories and experiences of places and things. Those memories and experiences are in themselves vast and colourful.
Her works are not intended to replicate a scene or a landscape, the intention is to evoke the sense of place and the associated feelings that are induced.
Ann Thomson’s new exhibition draws from a multitude of residencies and painting expeditions around the world. “Brisbane is where I grew up and where my inspiration and influences began”, says Thomson “My painting has always moved between representation and abstraction which I continue to explore today”.
From the Snowy Mountains to the rainforests and islands of Far North Queensland Thomson’s painting explore the concept of air and space.
The exhibition is showing at Mitchell Fine Art, 86 Arthur Street Fortitude Valley until 8th August.
