'Wine Glass Cove III' (detail) Merv Moriarty, 61 x 91cm acrylic on canvas
Mitchell Fine Art will host a Flying Arts Alliance exhibition initiative ‘Colour II: Merv Moriarty, in the Field’ from Wednesday 14th November 2018.
The exhibition will feature the new series of watercolour and canvas works by artist, art educator and Flying Art founder - Merv Moriarty.
Flying Arts is an arts and cultural development organisation which has been delivering visual arts projects and services to regional and remote Queensland for 45 years.
Merv Moriarty describes his way of working as “sketching in the field first using watercolours or acrylics, with final works exploring the flexibility of modern acrylic paints of canvas”.
The process of working from life rather than from a photograph is an important part of Moriarty’s process and he notes that, “I am constantly striving to reveal, not imitate reality.”
“Affectionately known as the ‘Flying Artist’, Merv Moriarty has remained committed to teaching and creating art for more than five decades. says Sarah Barron, Flying Arts.
Following his Brisbane exhibition the works will tour to five Queensland Regional Galleries in 2019 – 2020 for the Colour and Response Tour and Exhibition project.
