George Gittoes - The Preacher

George Gittoes painting 'The Preacher' was acquired this week for the collection of the National Gallery of Australia.

The work is one of George's most important artworks, born out of conflict but continuing to promote peace.

'The Preacher' was the winner of the 1995 Blake Prize for Religious Art and was completed following George's visit to Rwanda in 1995 with the Australian peacekeeping forces.

George Gittoes is one Australia's most important contemporary artists and advocates for peace. His tireless work was recognised last year with George being awarded the 2015 Sydney Peace Prize.

Mitchell Fine Art is proud to represent George Gittoes and will host a major exhibition of his work from the 27th July.
