Curated from the gallery collection, Director Mike Mitchell has carefully selected artworks from various artists, showcasing some of the galleries finest works.
Penrose Hart is a landscape painter working primarily en plein air. As a landscape painter, travelling informs most of Penrose Hart’s paintings. Whether en plein air or recalling the memory of a certain place, Penrose Hart captures these experiences through her application of thick impasto paint as much as the imagery portrayed.

MacFarlane’s work is saturated with contrasting blocks of colour, cinematic lighting and exaggerated angles. His paintings are dramatic narratives - uncertain and unsettling. With his implied scenarios and visual clues, MacFarlane’s works raise more questions than answers as he entices the audience to play detective and solve the mystery. Capturing seemingly random moments MacFarlane engages a universal visual language to create suspicious atmospheres.
Artists featured in this year’s edition of ‘Director’s Choice’ include: Carlos Barrios, David Hayes, Jeff Makin, Steve Lopes, Euan Macleod, Peter Hudson, Lorna Fencer Napurrula and Kudditji Kame Kngwarreye.
The exhibition is showing at Mitchell Fine Art, 86 Arthur Street Fortitude Valley from 31st of January until 29th March 2018.
The gallery is open 6 days a week from Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am until 5pm, with onsite parking available.
