Mirra Whale 2019 EMSLA Still Life Art Award winner

Mirra Whale is a Sydney based artist who explores everyday, 'banal and commonplace' subjects and presents them from another angle.

“I want to find beauty in the simplest of objects” says Whale. “To chase shadows that reach across the walls with fleeting light” says Mirra.

Mirra Whale 2019 EMSLA Still Life Art Award winner The EMSLA remains the only art award in Australia dedicated to Still Life painting. Artists from all over Australia enter the award each year, attracting repeated entries from high calibre established and talented emerging artists.

Sprats & vino, was selected from among 55 finalists by judge Jane Watters. Ms Watters said it was the inherent stillness of the artwork which won Whale this year's EMSLA prize.

The EMSLA Still Life Award is showing at Project Contemporary Artspace in Wollongong, NSW.
