Topsy Peterson Napangardi
Topsy Peterson Napangardi was born at the Aboriginal outstation of Kungkayunti (Browns Bore) south west of Alice Springs in Central Australia. Topsy’s older sister, Lily Kelly Napangardi is also an established artist.
Topsy and her family were relocated to Haasts Bluff (Kunparrka), where as a 15 year old girl, she married Leo Peterson and then settled at the Mount Liebig Community.
Growing up Topsy Peterson Napangardi was taught the stories of her family’s dreaming. Topsy paintings depict the sandhills (Tali) of her country. It is the story that was passed onto her by her father. Topsy’s painting are constructed using small dots in a series of colours. Each colour is carefully selected and applied to ensure balance and continuity.
