Kay Rubuntja Napurrula
Kay Rubuntja Napurrula is a Warlpiri woman from the Willowra community which is situated about 300km from Alice Springs. Kay started painting in 1987 and holds great pride in being a self taught artist.
Kay Rubuntja Napurrula paints in a minimalist style. Her detailed dot work is striking and the works often have an optical quality to them.
Her paintings portray the story of “Ngapa” (Water Dreaming) a soakage site in Kay’s homelands near Willowra. This site provide the groups water supply, the women go to the soakage site and dig for water.
Kay Rubuntja Napurrula has one daughter, two sons and four grandchildren. Her daughter, Anna Louise Rubuntja is the only artist out of her three children.
