Stewart MacFarlane
Stewart MacFarlane completed his Diploma in Fine Art in 1974 before travelling to the US to further his studies, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1977. He has spent much of his adult life travelling and following his two great passions – art and music.
Stewart MacFarlane's paintings are heavily saturated with urban and rural landscapes, decaying architecture and characters that seek explanation. His is ruthless in this application. He does not pursue perfection in his art, he seeks narrative and the release of the imagination.
Stewart MacFarlane’s work is widely collected and is represented, amongst others, in the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the QLD Art Gallery, Artbank, Art Gallery of WA, Brisbane City Gallery, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and many regional institutions.
