Visions Of Utopia (Sofitel)

An exhibition comprising significant works by some of Australia’s most recognizable Aboriginal artists is on display at La Galerie within the Sofitel Brisbane Central from Friday 13th December 2013.
‘Visions of Utopia’ showcases a range of unique styles from the Central Australian region of Utopia. A number of renowned and Award winning artists make up the exhibition including; Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Kudditji Kngwarreye, Minnie Pwerle, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Abie Loy Kemarre, Polly Ngale and Angelina Ngale.
The exhibition also features works by the 2013 Gold Coast Art Prize finalist Margaret Loy Pula.
The Utopia region is 270kms north-east from Alice Springs and is an Aboriginal homeland made up of a series of smaller outstations. This particular region in Central Australia has been and is home to some of Australia's most distinguished Aboriginal artistic talent.
The modern art movement in Utopia began in the late 1970s with batik (wax-resist dyeing) workshops. This developed into experimentation with acrylics on canvas in the early 1990s. Proving successful this has since developed into the contemporary art works coming from the region today.
