Darwin-based artist Franck Gohier has an extensive portfolio as a painter, sculptor and printmaker. His work is a genuine response to lived experiences and knowledge of Northern Australia – its people and natural environment, significant political and cultural events, and social history.

Franck Gohier's latest exhibition further explores his interests in appropriation and iconoclasm.  Australia is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse populations in the world.

Utilising Andy Warhol's Soup Can imagery, Franck Gohier ponders the concept of identity.

Can we identify en masse by our cuisine?

What if Warhol grew up in Northern Australia?

'To live in the far north of Australia is to experience an amalgam of colloquialisms, Indigenous influences, Asian flavours, and a hint of the residual European ‘mother country'. If nothing else, my conclusion would be that it is our irreverent sense of humour that consolidates this essentially disparate collective of humans as ‘Australian’.  Franck Gohier 2022
