'Night Vision' | George Gittoes
27th July - 20th Aug 2016
Mitchell Fine Art will host a solo exhibition of the artwork of one of Australia’s most important yet controversial artists, George Gittoes. Represented in some of Australia’s most prestigious collections this will be Gittoes first commercial exhibition in Brisbane.
For nearly 4 decades George Gittoes has documented the best and worst of some of the world’s most notorious human conflicts. His artworks capture the atrocities and attacks on basic human rights and have typically reflected his social, political and humanitarian observations of man's treatment of his fellow man. His artworks are both confronting and thought provoking.
This exhibition has been created over the past 30 years and concentrates on imagery relating to a series of unpublished novels and essays written by Gittoes.
Acclaimed as one of Australia’s most important artists, in 2015 he was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in recognition of his life's work in contributing to the peace making process. His work has been collected by major galleries and institutions.
