Margaret Loy Pula at Orange Regional Gallery

8th February - 24th March 2019

Margaret Loy Pula's exhibition ‘Anatye’ will be held at Orange Regional Gallery, NSW from February 8 to March 24, 2019 alongside the Archibald Prize Tour.

Like many artists of the Anmatyerre area of Central Australia, Margaret Loy Pula's paintings are based on stories handed down—in this case from her father—with the main subject being the ‘Anatye’ (bush potato or wild yam) which is of spiritual significance to her people.

In 2012 Pula was the first Indigenous artist to win the prestigious Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize in South Australia. In 2011, she won the Sunshine Coast Art Prize and in the same year won the Paddington Art Prize (Sydney). In 2017, Pula was awarded the prestigious Arthur Guy Memorial Prize in Bendigo and the Tattersall's Art Prize in Brisbane.

This will be Margaret Loy Pula's first solo exhibition in a public gallery or museum in Australia and will be officially opened by Richard Morecroft on Friday 8 Febuary from 6pm.
